What is an ITE?
The Institutes for Energy Transition (ITE) are interdisciplinary platforms in the field of low-carbon energies, bringing together the skills of industry and public research in a logic of “public-private co-investment and close collaboration between all the actors”, which should help to strengthen the ecosystems formed by the competitiveness clusters. An ITE is a tool of excellence whose primary purpose is the industrial and/or service development through the grouping and strengthening of public and private research capacities. It requires a sufficient critical mass of resources and skills, preferably located in the same place. It should cover the entire innovation process, including demonstration and industrial prototyping.
The ITE should ensure the international visibility of excellent themes and position itself on new markets.
Finally, it concerns promising energy sectors with a positive impact on the climate, such as energy efficiency in buildings or transport equipment, energy management tools, geothermal energy, marine renewable energy, solar energy, energy storage and smart energy networks.

The Institut Photovoltaïque d’Île-de-France (IPVF) is a partnership between industry and research.
Created on the initiative of EDF and Total, it is associated with major French manufacturers such as Air Liquide, equipment manufacturers such as Horiba and Riber and academic partners such as the CNRS and the École polytechnique. It federates their research activities in photovoltaic solar energy and aims to carry out research work in collaboration with all the actors in the sector, by developing its network of partners at regional, national and international level.
Missions & Ambitions
The objective of the IPVF is to improve the performance and competitiveness of photovoltaic cells and to develop new breakthrough technologies based on two levers:
- A research program
Aiming at high conversion efficiencies, low manufacturing costs and compatibility with sustainable development issues of the devices and processes developed ;
- An experimental research platform
Open to photovoltaic industry players bringing together key research equipment in a dedicated building capable of hosting the partners’ researchers. This platform is constantly evolving to adapt to the needs of research projects and remain at the forefront of technology.
