Save the date – Solar PV Big & Beyond – Delivering 2030 climate targets | ETIP PV Annual Conference

23/02/2021

As part of the European Green Deal, the European Commission proposed in September 2020 to raise the 2030 greenhouse gas emission reduction target, including emissions and removals, to at least 55% compared to 1990.

The Annual conference of the European Technology and Innovation Platform for Photovoltaics will discuss the challenges of delivering these 2030 climate targets to Europe. The EU has to move towards a climate-neutral economy and has to implement its commitments under the Paris Agreement by updating its Nationally Determined Contribution. ETIP PV supports all activities and steps to be taken to make Europe a leader in green energy and to build an independent, clean energy supply.

Roch Drozdowski-Strehl, Conference Chairman and the ETIP PV Vice-Chairman said: “Launched on February 23rd, 2021, the European Solar Initiative, supported by Commissioners Thierry Breton and Kadri Simson, as well as French Minister Agnès Pannier-Runacher, creates historical momentum for the solar pv sector in Europe. In this unique context, the annual ETIP PV Conference is designed to reflect the latest trends and announcements in the PV industry. It will provide a comprehensive update on the research and innovation areas which are key to the realization of Europe’s ambitions: accelerating energy transition, creating quality jobs, pushing industrial competitiveness & strategic autonomy in renewable technologies”.

Marko Topič, the ETIP PV Chairman said: “The annual ETIP PV Conference will make it clear that Solar PV offers a key contribution to the climate-neutral economy since it already today provides power generation solutions that are more efficient and cheaper than conventional energy sources but also compared to other renewable energy sources. Europe should re-strengthen the lead in technological development, state-of-the-art manufacturing, sustainability of production, and quality and efficiency of solar PV products to reach -55% target in 2030”.

The event will take place online and will cover four sessions with a series of live panel discussions on 19&20 May 2021 from 14:00 – 18:00.
